Ten students were killed and eight others injured, as a bomb exploded in a religious madrassa in the northeastern Afghani province of Takhar, a source in the Ashkamish district revealed on Thursday.
Takhar police spokesman, Khalilullah Asir, confirmed the incident but reported different numbers of fatalities and injuries.
"The explosion took place in a madrassa due to the explosion of an RPG [rocket-propelled grenade] bullet, seven students were killed and eight others injured", Asir said.
There are no immediate reports about the perpetrators of the deadly attack.
Earlier the same day, seven police officers were killed in an attack on a military base claimed by the Taliban in Baghlan Province.
On Monday, at least six people were killed and 16 others injured in clashes between Afghan government forces and the Taliban radical movement in the Qaisar district of the northern Afghan province of Faryab.
