In a Friday interview with Axios, Trump vowed a "wild evening" in Tulsa, Oklahoma, adding that it was time "to get back living our lives". The rally comes as the United States is grappling with the coronavirus pandemic and the unrest prompted by George Floyd's murder.

Sputnik is live from Tulsa, Oklahoma where US President Donald Trump is holding his first presidential campaign rally since the coronavirus outbreak swept the nation, at a time when the US is being hit by violent protests against racism and police brutality.

The president has faced a backlash for holding the rally as the state of Oklahoma has been reporting a spike in COVID-19 cases. But Trump has downplayed the risks, saying that his campaign would provide free masks which attendees could use at their own discretion.

During his rally speech, Trump said that there should be legislation requiring a one-year prison term for burning the American flag.

He added that although he believes in freedom of speech, he sees burning the flag as a "desecration" and "a terrible thing".

The president referred to an incident that took place in the city of Portland on Thursday evening which saw protesters topple a statue of George Washington. According to video footage from the incident, a US flag was wrapped around the statue and set alight.

“Two days ago, leftist radicals in Portland, Oregon, ripped down a statue of George Washington and wrapped it in an American flag and set the American flag on fire … We ought to come up with legislation that if you burn the American flag, you go to jail for one year,” Trump said at a rally.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Police in Tulsa, Oklahoma, have detained a woman wearing an "I can’t breathe" shirt after she refused to leave the "sterile" area of US President Donald Trump’s campaign rally, the Tulsa Police Department said in a statement.

"This morning at 11:30 am [16:00 GMT] Tulsa Police were requested by Trump Campaign Staff to remove an individual from the secure area of the rally. Tulsa Police spoke to the arrestee, Ms. Buck, for several minutes trying to convince her to leave on her own accord. After several minutes requesting her to leave, she continued to refuse to cooperate and was escorted out of the area and transported to booking for obstruction," the Tulsa Police said on Saturday.

MSNBC reported on Saturday that Ms. Buck, 62, said she had a ticket to attend the Saturday campaign event in Tulsa.

"For clarification, the arrestee had passed through the metal detector area to the most secure area of the event accessible only to ticket holders. Whether she had a ticket or not for the event is not a contributing factor for the Tulsa Police in making the arrest. Officers at the location, particularly in the 'Sterile' area, will remove individuals only at the direction of Campaign Staff," Tulsa Police said.

According to the organizers, Tulsa is the first city to have two air balloons in the air at the same time.

The Trump campaign announced in a statement that planned speeches by the president and the vice president will not take place at the stage outside the arena.

The statement by the campaign's communications director, Tim Murtaugh, marked "thousands of energetic supporters", but asserted that "protestors interfered with supporters", even blocking access to metal detectors, making it impossible for people to enter the rally.

"Radical protestors, coupled with a relentless onslaught from the media, attempted to frighten off the president’s supporters. We are proud of the thousands who stuck it out", the statement read.
