Head of Mexico City's public security, Omar Garcia, has been wounded in a shootout in the west of the city, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said on Friday.
Earlier, Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo said that the official had been attacked in Mexico's capital. The mayor added that Garcia was currently being treated in a hospital and is "out of danger".
In the early hours of Friday, the prestigious Lomas de Chapultepec neighbourhood, which houses mansions and corporate offices of multinational companies in the west of the capital, suffered an intense exchange of fire with high-calibre weapons, according to videos posted on social networks.
According to the mayor, the gunfight that rocked the affluent and usually peaceful area resulted in three fatalities. The mayor added that the police have carried out several arrests in relation to the incident.
