21:01 GMT 16.07.2020 (Updated: 18:52 GMT 06.03.2023) Real Madrid, scoring 86 points overall, became the champion before the end of the tournament, out of reach of its rivals. The last time the club triumphed in the Spanish championship was during the 2016-2017 season.
Real Madrid became the football champion of Spain ahead of schedule, defeating Villarreal with the score of 2-1 on the 37th round.
The match took place at the stadium of Real's reserve team. The team sealed the title thanks to Karim Benzema's two goals in the 29th and 77th minutes of the match. Villarreal had one goal, shot by midfielder Vicente Iborra.
With 86 points, Real became out of reach to its rivals, marking the 34th time it has sealed the title of Spanish champion, after their previous La Liga triumph in the 2016-17 season.
FC Barcelona, with 79 points in second place in the table, lost to Osasuna with the score 1-2.
