Live Updates: Trump Campaign Blasts First Night of DNC as 'Hollywood-Produced Infomercial'

Trump campaign national press secretary Hogan Gidley slammed the first night of the Democratic National Convention as a “Hollywood-produced infomercial”. The first night of the convention even featured “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria as one of four celebrity emcees who will act as a guide on each of the four nights.

“Perhaps it was just an oversight, but the first night of the Democrat convention left out the fact that Joe Biden would raise taxes on more than 80 percent of Americans by at least $4 trillion. Also missing was his open borders policy, with amnesty and work permits for 11 million illegal aliens. There was no mention of Joe Biden’s desire to cut police funding, kill ten million energy jobs with a green new deal, or give free healthcare to illegal aliens, but in fairness, it was only the first night. Democrats can try to conceal the dangerous truth with a Hollywood-produced infomercial, but they can’t hide the fact that the radical socialist leftist takeover of Joe Biden is complete”, Gidley said.

Trump campaign strategist Brad Parscale also took to Twitter with a simple question: "Is this the Democratic National Convention or a Hollywood award show?”

"During this president's term the unthinkable has become reality. He has tried to prevent people from voting, he has undermined the U.S. Postal Service, deployed the military and federal agents against peaceful protesters, threatened to delay the election and suggested that he will not leave office if he loses", the Vermont senator and former presidential candidate said, addressing the Democratic National Convention from his home state.

Sanders then blasted Trump's handling of the coronavirus crisis, claiming POTUS "put our lives and health in jeopardy".

Donald Trump took to Twitter on Monday after New York Governor Andrew Cuomo spoke earlier at the Democratic National Convention with criticism of the US president, implying that his administration's performance contributed to the dire coronavirus situation in the country.

Former Ohio governor John Kasich, who ran for president four years ago but lost the Republican nomination to Donald Trump, appeared at the Democratic National Convention speaking in support of Joe Biden.

“I’m sure there are Republicans and Independents who couldn’t imagine crossing over to support a Democrat,” Kasich said. “They fear Joe may turn sharp left and leave them behind. I don’t believe that because I know the measure of the man," Kasich said.

Andrew Cuomo called the coronavirus pandemic on Monday night a "metaphor". "America's body politic has been weakened, the divisions have grown deeper," the New York Governor said, arguing that US president Donald Trump has "only made it worse".
