Gavin Newsom, California’s governor, declared a statewide emergency on 18 August, while US President Donald Trump approved a major disaster declaration for the state on 22 August.
A devastating fire tornado has been caught on film in California. The video depicting the hellish phenomenon shows a flaming pillar moving over the charred earth, while a siren in the background confirms that firefighters have already arrived at the site.
