Air Force Two, carrying US Vice President Mike Pence, was forced to return to the Manchester Airport, in New Hampshire, shortly after it took off on Tuesday, according to media reports.
Reporters said, citing a CNN pooler, that the plane returned to the airport due to engine issues which could have been caused by a bird strike.
The VP, along with staffers, is said to be returning to Washington on a cargo plane after the incident.
Pence attended a campaign event in Gilford before departing on Air Force Two.
