The global death toll from the coronavirus infection has topped 1.06 million; almost 36.8 million cases of infection have been detected, and over 25.5 million of those patients have recovered, according to Baltimore, Maryland's Johns Hopkins University, which tracks and compiles data from national and local authorities, the media and other sources.

The United States still has the highest coronavirus case count in the world: 7,663,033 have been infected with the virus, of whom 213,739 have died and 3,039,089 have reportedly recovered.

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he works to fast-track the approval of Regeneron, an antibody drug developed by pharmaceutical companies Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and Eli Lilly for coronavirus treatment.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The number of coronavirus-related fatalities in Brazil has surpassed 150,000 with more than 500 deaths registered in the past 24 hours, according to the country’s government website.

A total of 26,749 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Brazil in the past 24 hours and the country registered 559 new deaths from COVID-19 in that period.

The total number of confirmed cases in Brazil now stands at 5,082,637 while the total death toll is at 150,198. More than 4.4 million people have recovered from COVID-19 in Brazil.

Earlier this week, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Brazil surpassed 5 million.

About one month ago, Brazil reported a total of around 130,000 coronavirus fatalities.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The number of COVID-19 cases confirmed globally has been reaching daily record highs for three days in a row, according to data from the World Health Organization (WHO).

In the past 24 hours, a record 383,359 new coronavirus cases were confirmed. The day before, there were 350,766 new cases, and before that, 338,779 new cases were reported by the WHO.

The number of new deaths from COVID-19 registered in the past 24 hours stands at 8,575. The total global coronavirus death toll is at 1,064,838 according to the WHO. The total number of confirmed cases is 36,754,395.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The number of new coronavirus cases in Russia has been exceeding the record registered in May for the second day in a row, with 12,846 cases recorded over the past 24 hours, the response centre said on Saturday, adding that the total number of confirmed cases has reached 1,285,084.

Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova has said that the highest number of cases in Russia was previously registered on 11 May, when 11,656 new infections were recorded over one day. However, on Friday, the authorities confirmed 12,126 new cases.

"Over the past 24 hours, Russia has confirmed 12,846 COVID-19 cases in 85 regions, including 3,338 cases (26.0 percent) that have been detected actively, with people showing no clinical symptoms", the response centre said in a statement.

Moscow has registered 4,105 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours (up from 3,701 new cases on Friday), which is more than any other region in Russia, followed by St. Petersburg with 501 cases (up from 469 new cases on Friday) and the Moscow Region with 416 cases (up from 411 new cases on Friday).

A total of 197 COVID-19 patients died in Russia in the past 24 hours, down from 201 deaths confirmed on Friday, which brings the death toll to 22,454 .

As many as 6,781 coronavirus patients have been discharged, down from 7,092 on Friday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,016,202.

India has confirmed 73,272 new cases of the coronavirus over the past 24 hours thus continuing to register the world's largest daily increase in the number of COVID-19 patients, with the total number of those infected having reached 6,979,424, the country's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Saturday. 

The death toll from the disease has reached 107,416 people, with 926 new fatalities recorded over the past day. More than 5.98 million people have recovered in India since the start of the epidemic.

India comes second in terms of the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, following the United States with more than 7.66 million COVID-19 patients.

A day earlier, India registered 70,496 new COVID-19 cases, with 964 fatalities.
