Chase Elliott captured his first Cup title, winning the NASCAR Championship on Sunday at the Phoenix Raceway. The victory marked the first win for Hendrick Motorsports and Chevrolet since Elliott's teammate, Jimmie Johnson, won his final title in 2016 when racing in London.

Elliott's car was sent to the rear in the beginning of the race, but he managed to regain his lead over opponents during the first stage and soon took control of the championship.
The racer is the first rookie to win the NASCAR Nationwide Series triumphing in a 2014 race in Florida.
