Police conducted a major operation in Montreal's Mile-End neighbourhood after hostages were reportedly taken at the offices of Ubisoft, a major video-game company.
Local reports now say that the incident may be a case of swatting - a crime where an intentionally misleading call is made to emergency services in an attempt to coerce a dispatch of heavily armed police officers to a particular address.
Earlier, a Ubisoft employee told local media that they were asked in an email to hide and keep quiet. Some of the staff barricaded at the terrace, others were hiding in the conference rooms, according to Le Journal de Montreal.
No injuries have been recorded.
According to La Presse, Ubisoft Montreal is a highly secure building, where several accesses are controlled with an electronic door lock.
