MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Israeli President Reuven Rivlin has invited Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of armed forces of the United Arab Emirates, to visit Israel and was extended a return invitation, the Emirates News Agency reported on Wednesday.

"In his message, the Israeli President expressed appreciation for the efforts made to sign the historic peace accord, paving the way for a new era in the ties between the two countries. President Rivlin extended an invitation to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed to visit Israel," the news release read.

The crown prince received a letter from Rivlin on Tuesday, according to the report. The letter reportedly addressed the "bilateral relations and ways to enhance them to serve mutual interests."

Al Nahyan sent a reply letter, as cited in the report, conveying his country's appreciation of the cooperation that led to the "historic" peace accord and also invited the Israeli president to visit the UAE.

On September 15, the UAE and Israel signed a US-brokered agreement on the normalisation of relations, which preceded the establishment of diplomatic relations, exchange of diplomatic missions, visa waivers and opening of direct air traffic.
