The UK police declared a major incident in the Bristol suburb of Avonmouth on Thursday after an explosion that “is believed to have occurred involving one of the chemical tanks at Wessex Water’s Bristol water recycling centre."
Rescue crews working at the scene continue to look for victims at the site of the blast.
"We can confirm there are multiple casualties on site", an Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson told the newspaper.
The Avonmouth Recycling Centre and Reuse Shop, located nearby, announced it will be temporarily closed until further notice.
