On Sunday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced another coronavirus lockdown from 16 December to 10 January.

After meeting with the heads of German federal states on Sunday, Chancellor Angela Merkel announced that non-essential shops, hair salons, schools, and kindergartens will be closed from Wednesday until 10 January. 

This comes as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany rose 1,337,078, with 21,975 deaths.​
