On Wednesday, US Congress was about to begin verifying the results of the US election but the Senate and House of Representatives went into recess due to the protesters entering the building. The storming of the building led to an armed standoff between protesters and police.

A terrifying graphic video emerged online reportedly showing a woman being shot inside the US Capitol building in Washington, DC.

According to the DC police, the woman later died from her wounds at a local hospital. The police did not immediately provide any details on the shooting incident. Earlier media reports said she was in critical condition fighting for her life, as she was loaded into the ambulance.

As seen on the footage shared on social media right after the accident occurred, there appears to be blood on the woman's chest. Another video posted on Twitter captured the woman falling to the ground as a gunshot can be heard in the background.

The incident reportedly occurred as thousands of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building, and a group of protesters entered the building, reaching the Senate chamber and reportedly engaged with the Capitol police. Police used tear gas and rubber bullets but were not successful in preventing the breach.

Fox News reported citing her friend that the woman killed inside the Capitol was identified as Ashli Babbit from San Diego, California. According to the broadcaster, Babbit was a strong supporter of President Trump who has served 14 years in the US air force.

Babbit, who reportedly held a high-security official post during her service, posted an enthusiastic tweet indicating she was going to participate in the Stop the Steal movement, whose participants endorse the claims of US President Donald Trump that massive irregularities took place during the 2020 presidential election.

Trump supporters have been protesting against the verification of the Electoral College votes, some of which the protesters claim are illegitimate.

President Donald Trump, as well as other high-ranking officials, has repeatedly called on the protesters to stay peaceful and respect law and order.

The US Capitol building was declared "secure" later in the evening, media reported.
