The top antitrust official in the US Justice Department, Assistant Attorney General Makan Delrahim, will resign on 19 January, Reuters reported, citing his letter to the White House.
Delrahim is an Iranian-American lawyer, who has been serving as Assistant Attorney General for the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice since September 2017.
The US Department of Justice Antitrust Division is a law enforcement agency that enforces the US antitrust laws, it shares jurisdiction with the Federal Trade Commission over civil antitrust cases.
The announcement of Delrahim's resignation comes amid continuing political instability in the US after dozens of Trump administration officials have stepped down following the violent breaching of the US Capitol by pro-Trump activists on 6 January and the US House's subsequent calling for Trump's impeachment.
