The incident comes close on the heels of a double murder reported from Chittoor in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh where a couple has been arrested for allegedly murdering their two grown daughters out of superstition and belief in reincarnation. The incident happened on 24 January 2021.

A family of four has been taken into custody by police in the Indian city of Vishakapatnam and sent for medical treatment for being mentally disturbed and indulging in superstitious rituals.

The incident occurred in the state of Andhra Pradesh, the Indian daily The Times of India reported on Thursday.

The police, after much persuasion, broke into the house and found various articles being used in ritual prayers including turmeric and lemons.

The family has been shifted to a hospital where doctors are assessing their mental health for a psychological disorder.
