Earlier, Meghan Markle and her husband, UK royal Prince Harry, caused waves after appearing in a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, rolling out explosive revelations about their departure from Buckingham Palace.

Meghan Markle is considering using her post-Oprah interview furore to start a political career that could possibly take her "all the way to the White House", The Daily Mail reported on Saturday, citing an unnamed senior Labour figure.

According to The Daily Mail's source, Markle is purportedly networking among senior Democrats to launch a campaign and try running for US president.

"The Blairite, internationalist and Democratic party networks are buzzing with talk about Meghan's political ambitions and potential backers", the outlet quoted the source saying.

The unknown source suggested that Markle is mulling running in 2024, when incumbent US President Joe Biden will be 82 and considering a run for a second term.

Rumours of her potential candidacy for the White House come soon after she and her husband, Prince Harry, appeared in a lengthy sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which Markle particularly accused an unnamed royal family member of making racist remarks and detailed how she was refused support when she became suicidal.

The interview has rocked social media and had millions of viewers drawn to TV screens, with some voicing support for the Sussexes and others condemned them.

This is not the first time speculation has unfolded around a possible political career for Markle, as, last year, after reports emerged saying that the reason Meghan would not give up her US citizenship was because she wanted to retain a path to American politics.

At the time, it was also said that, in the event of the royal couple renouncing their titles, Markle would "seriously consider" running for US president.

After departing from the UK royal family, Harry and Meghan gave up their titles 'His Royal Highness' and 'Her Royal Highness', while keeping the titles Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

If rumours of White House ambitions turn out to be true, Markle would likely have to renounce the Sussex title, if not granted an exception by the Congress, since the US constitution bans the government from granting titles of nobility.

During the 2020 presidential election, the Sussex couple recorded a video urging Americans to vote, raising some eyebrows and prompting some to suggest that they support Democrat Joe Biden. At the time, Buckingham Palace issued a statement outlining that the Duke was not a working member of the UK royal family and therefore his assertion had been made in a personal capacity.
