ISIS-K Planner Hit in US Drone Strike in Eastern Afghanistan
01:32 GMT 28.08.2021 (Updated: 13:23 GMT 06.08.2022) The US airstrike against ISIS-K, also known as Daesh-K, came shortly after the international airport in Kabul saw several deadly suicide bombings on Thursday. The responsibility for the attack that killed 13 US military personnel was claimed by the Daesh terrorist group.
The United States
conducted an airstrike against a Daesh-K* planner in the eastern part of Afghanistan on Friday.
According to a statement by a CENTCOM spokesman, Capt. Bill Urban, initial indication showed that "we killed the target".
"US military forces conducted an over-the-horizon counterterrorism operation today against an ISIS-K planner. The unmanned airstrike occurred in the Nangahar Province of Afghanistan", Urban stated. "We know of no civilian casualties."
The airstrike comes shortly after the Thursday deadly bombings in the Hamid Karzai airport in the Afghan capital city of Kabul that killed 13 US soldiers and dozens of Afghan civilians, many of which were said to have been Taliban members. In wake of the attack, US President Joe Biden
vowed to "hunt down" those responsible for the blasts.
"We will not forgive. We will not forget. We will hunt you down and make you pay", he said on Thursday, shortly after the bombings.
The responsibility for the attacks was claimed by Daesh.
Commenting on the blasts, Biden said he did not believe in a collusion between Daesh and the Taliban, noting that the latter have a shared interest in maintaining the security of the airport and finishing the evacuation by 31 August.
