Waukesha police confirmed to reporters on Monday that some 48 people were injured during the Sunday evening incident. Two of the 48 injured are children. The deceased have been identified as one 79-year-old woman; one 71-year-old woman; two 52-year-old women; and one 81-year-old man. Authorities have referred five counts of first-degree intentional homicide against the suspect, who told police that he acted alone. According to Waukesha Police Chief Daniel Thompson, the suspect was involved in a domestic disturbance just minutes before he drove his automobile through a police barricade at the parade. Authorities have denied that they were pursuing the suspect at the time of the fatal incident. The act has not been labeled a terrorist attack. The suspect has been identified in the media as Darrell Brooks, 39, reportedly a registered sex offender in the US state of Nevada. Brooks, within the past two years, has been charged three times for recklessly endangering others, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He was most recently released from the Milwaukee County Jail on November 16.Court records obtained by the outlet showed that this is not the first time Brooks has used a vehicle to inflict harm. Earlier this month a woman filed a criminal complaint saying that Brooks purposefully ran her "over with his vehicle" as she was attempting to walk through a gas station parking lot. The two were allegedly having an argument moments prior to the incident and the woman was ultimately hospitalized for her injuries, according to court documents.
