The border forces of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan exchanged fire again on Friday morning not long after a similar accident was reported the day before, the Kyrgyz border service told Sputnik. As a result of the previous 10-minute fire exchange, one Tajik border guard was killed, according to Tajikistan's law enforcement. The reason for the skirmish was said to be a change in the regular route of the Tajik border patrol on an unspecified section of the border, Kyrgyz authorities said. The exchange of fire followed after an "unreasonable" demand was made to the Kyrgyz border guards to leave the border. The border service clarified that no Kyrgyz citizens were injured during the incident. The last major shootout between the border guards occurred at the end of January after Tajiks blocked a Kyrgyz road, and lasted for several hours. Shooting Reported Again on Tajik-Kyrgyz Border
02:31 GMT 11.03.2022 (Updated: 03:04 GMT 11.03.2022) Clashes on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan periodically occur between local residents and border guards of the two countries due to the existence of non-delimited areas.
The border forces of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan exchanged fire again on Friday morning not long after a similar accident was reported the day before, the Kyrgyz border service told Sputnik.
“At about 02:50 local time on March 11, 2022, another skirmish between the border guards of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan took place on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border,” officials said.
The last
major shootout between the border guards occurred at the end of January after Tajiks blocked a Kyrgyz road, and lasted for several hours. A truce was reached only after
negotiations took place between the representatives of the two countries. More than 30 people from both sides were injured during the skirmish.
