Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday offered condolences to Chinese President Xi Jinping over death of people following a plane crash, the Kremlin said.
The incident took place earlier in the day. According to The Civil Aviation Administration of China, 132 people — 123 passengers and nine crew members — were aboard the plane that crashed in the Guangxi region.
"Dear chairman, please accept my most sincere condolences in connection with the death of passengers and crew members of the aircraft flying from Kunming to Guangzhou," Putin said in a message to Xi, as quoted by the Kremlin.

US FAA Ready to Assist in Investigation of Boeing 737-800 Crash in China
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said on Monday it is aware of reports of the crash of a Boeing 737-800 plane in China and is ready to assist in investigation if needed.
"The FAA is aware of reports that a China Eastern Airlines Boeing 737-800 plane crashed this morning in China. The agency is ready to assist in investigation efforts if asked," it tweeted.

China Eastern Airlines Suspends Flights of All Boeing 737-800 Aircraft After Plane Crash in Southern China, Reports Say
China Eastern airlines announced on Monday its decision to suspend all flights by its Boeing 737-800 aircraft after the plane crash in Southern China, China Central Television (CCTV) reported.

The incident took place earlier in the day. According to the Civil Aviation Administration of China, 132 people — 123 passengers and nine crew members — were aboard. The authority activated the emergency response mechanism and sent a working group to the scene.

Planes currently in the air will also temporarily remain on the ground after completing their flights, the CCTV added.

Neither the authorities nor the airline company have yet reported preliminary versions of the cause of the disaster. The search and rescue operation continues.

Local Authorities Have No Info on Foreign Citizens on Board Boeing That Crashed in China - Russian Consulate
The Civil Aviation Administration of China on Monday confirmed the crash of a Boeing 737 aircraft in southern China with 132 people aboard, and deployed a special task force to the scene of the incident.

According to the authority, the plane operated by China Eastern Airlines that crashed in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, carried 123 passengers and nine crew members.

"The Civil Aviation Administration has activated the emergency response mechanism and sent a working group to the scene", a statement read.

The Consulate General of Russia in China told Sputnik that no data about Russian citizens aboard the aircraft has so far been reported.
