South Korea's military said it fired "several ballistic and guided missiles" after North Korea's ICBM launch. It added that it is "ready and capable" of precision strikes against North Korea's missile launch locations and control systems "if needed".This comes after South Korea's President, Moon Jae-in, accused the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un earlier in the day of breaching the moratorium on intercontinental ballistic missile launches. Before that, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said North Korea was suspected to have launched a long-range ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan. The launch was also condemned by Japan, with Tokyo sending a protest note to Pyongyang. Emergency headquarters were established by Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to gather and analyse information about North Korea's alleged missile launch. Should the infraction be confirmed, it will be North Korea’s 11th launch this year and longest-range missile launch since November 2017, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said. The US has also criticised North Korea's actions, urging Pyongyang not to destabilise the situation further. According to the US Indo-Pacific Command, it has consulted with South Korea, Japan and other allies in the region since the DPRK's ballistic missile launch. The White House has described DPRK's launch as a violation of several UN Security Council resolutions."The United States strongly condemns the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) for its test of a long-range ballistic missile ...The President [Joe Biden] and his national security team are assessing the situation in close coordination with our allies and partners. This launch is a brazen violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions and needlessly raises tensions and risks destabilizing the security situation in the region," White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement. This demonstrates that North Korea continues to "prioritize its weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs over the well-being of its people," the statement added.

South Korea 'Fires Multiple Ballistic and Guided Missiles' Following Alleged ICBM Launch by DPRK
08:54 GMT 24.03.2022 (Updated: 13:36 GMT 18.09.2023) South Korean President Moon Jae-in earlier accused North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un of violating the moratorium on intercontinental ballistic missile launches after Pyongyang fired a long-range missile towards the Sea of Japan.
South Korea's military said it fired "several ballistic and guided missiles" after North Korea's ICBM launch.
It added that it is "ready and capable" of precision strikes against North Korea's missile launch locations and control systems "if needed".
This comes after South Korea's President, Moon Jae-in,
accused the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un earlier in the day of breaching the moratorium on intercontinental ballistic missile launches.
The White House has described DPRK's launch as a violation of several UN Security Council resolutions.
"The United States strongly condemns the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) for its test of a long-range ballistic missile ...The President [Joe Biden] and his national security team are assessing the situation in close coordination with our allies and partners.
