On 24 February, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine to stop the eight-year war waged by Kiev in Donbass. President Vladimir Putin stressed that the goal of the operation was the denazification and demilitarisation of Ukraine.
Representatives from Moscow and Kiev are expected to meet on 29-30 March to hold the first round of face-to-face talks in three weeks.
In the meantime, the Russian military and Donbass militias continue their advance. Over the past day, Russian forces targeted 67 Ukrainian military objects, according to the MoD.
In total, Russian troops have eliminated 289 drones, 1,656 tanks, and over 1,500 military vehicles.

Ruble-Based Settlement for Russian Energy to Be Clarified Soon - Russian Envoy to EU
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The mechanism of settlements between European countries and Russia in switching to ruble payments for Russian energy imports will be clarified soon, Russian Permanent Representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov said on Monday.
"I do not see a critical situation here, and I think abandoning Russian energy would be in a certain sense suicidal at this stage for the EU countries," he told the Rossiya 24 broadcaster.
The European Union was not ready to say goodbye to Russian energy resources, and the reaction in Europe to the announcement of the switching of settlements to rubles was "initial" and "emotional," the envoy said.
The transfer of payments for gas to rubles was a "certain" shock for Europe, it discouraged both European politicians and energy companies, Chizhov said.
"If we compare what they are saying now, then they have a practical interest: where to get rubles?" Chizhov added.

Guterres Says UN Humanitarian Chief Will Hopefully Visit Moscow, Kiev for Ceasefire Talks
UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) - UN Humanitarian Coordinator Martin Griffiths will hopefully travel to Moscow and Kiev soon to engage in talks on the possibility of a humanitarian ceasefire in Ukraine, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Monday.
"I hope that [Griffiths] will be able to go to both Moscow and Kiev as soon as that becomes possible. It’s very important to establish a serious dialogue with both parties in relation to the possibility of this humanitarian ceasefire," Guterres said.
Earlier on Monday, Guterres announced that Griffiths will explore with Russia and Ukraine a potential humanitarian ceasefire agreement in order to make progress toward a politically negotiated peace.

Sweden to Accept Fewer Ukrainian Refugees to Avoid 2015-Style Migrant Crisis
Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson told reporters in Berlin on Monday that "we will do our part in helping Ukrainian refugees, but we cannot come back to the situation we had in 2015 when Sweden took a disproportionate part of the asylum seekers."
Andersson said Sweden accepted about 12% of the total number of refugees coming to the European Union in 2015, despite accounting to only 2% of the bloc's population.

"We cannot come back to that kind of solution, but of course we will do our part and we are right now, of course, also welcoming Ukrainians that are coming to Sweden today, yesterday and during the last weeks,'' she said after a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

WSJ: US Lawmakers to Probe Credit Suisse’s Compliance With Russia Sanctions
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - US lawmakers have requested that Credit Suisse Group provide information related to the bank's compliance with sanctions imposed on Russian businessmen, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.
US House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney and Subcommittee on National Security Chairman Stephen Lynch have sent a letter to Credit Suisse CEO Thomas Gottstein asking him to hand over information regarding the bank's financing of yachts and aircraft owned by potentially sanctioned Russian individuals, the report said.
The lawmakers became interested in the information after Credit Suisse told its investors to destroy and erase data related to dealings with wealthy clients as part of a debt deal, the report said.
In February, The Financial Times reported that the debt deal provided for the disposal of more than $2 billion in loans issued to Russian businessmen that defaulted in 2017-2018 due to US sanctions while investors were also asked to destroy deal documents.
