Russia is celebrating the 77th anniversary of the Allied victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two, which is locally called the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
Sputnik is live from Moscow, as the Victory Day parade is held on Red Square. This year, over 11,000 servicemen are participating in the parade, as well as 131 combat vehicles and 77 aircraft. President Vladimir Putin later laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by the Kremlin Wall.
Later, the Immortal Regiment march will take place in the city, with people carrying portraits of their grandparents, great-grandparents, and other deceased loved ones who fought against the Nazis during WWII.
In the meantime, commemorative events will be held in cities all over Russia.
