"Demining units of the Russian Armed Forces and the Russian Emergencies Ministry carry out tasks to clear the territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics of explosive objects. Overall, 2,604.94 hectares (6,437 acres) have been inspected," Col. Gen. Mizintsev said.
"Despite all the difficulties created by the Kiev regime, over the past day, without participation of the Ukrainian authorities, 20,043 people, including 2,886 children, were evacuated to the territory of the Russian Federation from dangerous areas of the Donbas republics and Ukraine," Col. Gen. Mizintsev said.
He added that since the start of Russia's special military operation, more than 1.5 million people, including over 250,000 children, have been evacuated to Russia.
"The Ukrainians have given us assurances they will not use these systems against targets in Russian territory and so based on those assurances, we're very comfortable that they will not," the official said on Tuesday.
"We have discussed the place of Ukraine in the European family... This issue will be discussed during the meeting of the Council of Europe on June 23-24. In particular, Ukraine's application for recognition of the country as a candidate for EU membership will be discussed there. We are waiting for the opinion of the European Commission on the matter. We are yet to get it, it will be provided on June 15," Colonna told a joint press conference after a meeting with Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau in Warsaw.
Volodymyr Zelensky signed the application for Ukraine's accession to the EU on February 28. During the EU delegation's visit to Kiev on April 8, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen handed Zelensky a questionnaire to begin Ukraine's accession process. She said that the document was "the basis for discussions in the coming months."
Zelensky turned in Ukraine's questionnaire to EU Ambassador in Ukraine Matti Maasikas on April 18. The questionnaire is currently being reviewed by the European Commission.
Earlier, the Wall Street Journal reported citing sources that the EU intended to ban the insurance of ships carrying oil from Russia, with the ban to be introduced in stages over six months.
According to the newspaper, the UK's decision will close important insurance market Lloyd's of London for Russia and will sharply limit the ability to export crude oil.
Greece and Cyprus agreed to the ban proposal only after the UK pledged to follow suit, according to sources.
"Let's not be deceived, these sanctions will last a very, very, very long time. Due to the state of things, trade lines will be changed, and possibly for many years; if not forever," the prime minister told reporters.
"One of the problems for the safe withdrawal of ships with grain is sea mines, set by Ukraine in the Odesa region. Another reason is the possibility of delivering Russian products to the markets. In the sixth package of sanctions, there is the issue of insurance. Russia cannot insure ships that will transport goods. Ships cannot receive service in other ports. Russia wants these restrictions lifted. We need a corridor and clearance of mines from this corridor. The Ukrainian side says that it can clear it in 15 days. But Ukraine does not want the passage of Russian warships through the port of Odesa. And Russia does not want this corridor to be used to supply Ukraine with weapons", Turkish FM Mevlut Cavusoglu told Anadolu reporters.
