On May 19, Brazilian Ambassador to the United Nations Ronaldo Costa Filho, during a United Nations Security Council meeting on global food insecurity issues, said that it is undeniable that the West's unilateral sanctions imposed on Russia have a secondary impact on the operation of markets, resulting in an increase of costs and in hampering the availability of foodstuffs and fertilizers.
Bolsonaro further told Biden that Brazil is dependent on something from other countries, so it prefers a position of balance and peace. He underscored that he has a country to manage and due to this dependence, it must always be cautious, especially amid inflation in food and energy induced by the pandemic and the Ukraine conflict.
Bolsonaro said the Brazil and the United States have everything to seal their trade relations and to strengthen trade ties.
On late Thursday, Macron held a phone conversation with Volodymyr Zelensky, asking him about the Ukrainian needs in technical, political and financial support as well as humanitarian assistance
The sanctions, imposed indefinitely, include blocking of assets, ban on export-import operations, and the prevention of the withdrawal of capital from Ukraine. The decree comes into force from the day of its publication.
The sanctions also target Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, deputy prime ministers, ministers, and other officials.
"The European Council last week endorsed the possibility of imposing — of considering — the price cap on Russian gas imports. This measure would constrain the increase in the inflation rate, support disposable incomes, and reduce our financial flows to Moscow," Draghi said during the Ministerial Council Meeting of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development in Paris.
"I consider the fact that our Turkish colleagues are trying to convince Kiev of the need to stop dragging out this process very positive. I hope that the Ukrainians realize that there is no alternative to resolving this issue on this basis, which is understandable, reasonable and objective", he told reporters following talks with his Armenian counterpart, Ararat Mirzoyan, in Yerevan.
"There is a danger of the spread of light small arms from the conflict zone, especially Javelins, MANPADS and anti-tank [weapons] around the world. There are already facts that these weapons are sold on the black market and sent to the Middle East, to [Syria's] Idlib. We have already seen the footage," Gavrilov told the Rossiya 24 broadcaster.
