LIVE UPDATES: Wednesday Prisoner Exchange Between Russia & Ukraine Ordered by President Putin

Russia launched its special operation in Ukraine on 24 February, as Donbass suffered from intense bombardment by Kiev's troops. President Vladimir Putin noted that the op was started to stop the eight-year-long war, waged by Kiev against Donestk and Lugansk, which has claimed thousands of lives since 2014.
Russian forces and the Donbass militias are advancing amid the special operation, driving the Ukrainian military out of DPR and LPR territory. The clashes continue around the city of Lisichansk in the LPR, where Russian troops and militias have seized control of an oil refinery and all the main roads.

Report: Pentagon Reviewing Proposals From Firms to Develop New Weapons to Help Ukraine
The US Department of Defense is reviewing 1,300 proposals from 800 companies to develop new weapons and commercial capabilities that they may be able to produce in order to help Ukraine amid Russia's special military operation, CNN reported citing a US defense official.

The proposals include air defense, anti-armor, anti-tank, anti-personnel, coastal defense, drones, secure communications, and counter battery, which are all key needs Ukraine has identified, the report said on Thursday.

The Pentagon is expected to decide on which proposals to pursue in the coming weeks, the report said.

The United States intends to improve the capacity of the US industrial base in order to support Ukraine's needs should the conflict continue for a long time, the report said.

Earlier this year, US defense officials met with major US defense firms to discuss the capability of the US industrial base to support Ukraine's military needs should the conflict continue for a long time. Congress also approved a $40 billion package to provide assistance to Ukraine.

US Promotes Sanctions to Weaken Not Only Russia, Belarus, But Also EU - Lavrov
The European Union is suffering from sanctions imposed by the United States against Russia much more than Washington itself, which means that the US probably wants to weaken the bloc as its competitor as well, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday.

"If you compare the sanctions imposed by EU countries against Russia and Belarus, and, on the other hand, [the sanctions] imposed by the United States, then [you'll see that] the US, in general, are sparing themselves and trying not to be very active in these areas that can harm their economy," Lavrov said at a press conference.
