13:20 GMT 12.07.2022 (Updated: 12:44 GMT 13.04.2023) Maher al-Agal, the leader of Daesh* terrorist group in Syria and one of the top four Daesh leaders overall, was killed as a result of US military airstrike in Syria, according to the NBC, citing the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
The attack targeted Maher al-Agal and his aide, but it is not clear if the aide was killed or injured, according to reports.
“The removal of these Daesh leaders will disrupt the terrorist organization’s ability to further plot and carry out attacks,” Col. Joe Buccino, spokesman for CENTCOM, told NBC.
