Since the start of Russia's special military operation in Ukraine, the UK together with its allies in the West has introduced an unprecedented package of coordinated Russia-related sanctions.
The UK will impose new sanctions on coal and oil imports from Russia, a document released by the government shows.
The ban on coal imports will come into effect on August 10, while sanctions on oil imports from Russia will take force on December 31.
Earlier on Thursday, the ban on gold imports from Russia to the UK came into effect.
"This amendment prohibits the import of oil and oil products, coal and coal products and gold ... It also prohibits the provision of technical assistance, financial services and funds and brokering services relating to these goods. The prohibition on the import of gold entered into force on 21 July, the prohibition on the import of coal will take effect on 10 August 2022 and the prohibition on the import of oil will take effect on 31 December 2022," the government said.
On Wednesday, the European Union unanimously agreed to ban imports of Russian gold, including jewellery, and freeze the assets of Russia's largest bank - Sberbank, as part of fresh sanctions over Russia's special military operation in Ukraine.

Putin: Russia Won't Be Separated From the Rest of the World by Sanctions
Moscow launched its special military operation in Ukraine on 24 February in answer to requests for help from the breakaway people's republics of Donetsk and Lugansk in the country's eastern region of Donbass amid intensified attacks by the Kiev forces. Commenting on the sanctions pressure against his country, Russian President Putin has repeatedly stressed that Western restrictions - especially regarding oil and gas imports from Russia - have already backfired on those who introduced them.
