On February 24, Russia launched a special military operation to demilitarize and de-Nazify Ukraine after the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics called on Moscow to help defend themselves against Kiev's attacks.
Russian forces are continuing to advance in Ukraine amid the military operation to liberate Donbass.
On Saturday, the Donetsk People’s Republic’s (DPR) mission to the Joint Center for Control and Coordination on the ceasefire regime (JCCC) said Ukrainian troops had shelled the city of Donetsk overnight using 155mm caliber artillery.
"Shelling was recorded from the side of the armed formations of Ukraine: 00:10 [21:10 GMT on Friday] in the direction of Netailove - city of Donetsk (Kuibyshevskyi, Kirovskyi districts): 6 shells of 152-mm caliber were fired," the DPR mission said in a statement on Telegram.

Attacks on Kakhovka Plant May Cause Nuclear Disaster at Zaporozhye NPP - Official
MELITOPOL (Sputnik) - The shellings of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant (HPP) in the Kherson region may cause a nuclear catastrophe at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant (NPP) as both facilities are linked to the same energy grid of Ukraine, Arseny Zelensky, HPP's deputy director for reconstruction, said on Saturday.
"At the moment we have three hydroelectric units in operation; there were four of them before the strike near the northern side [of the facility]. We work in a very dangerous environment. Of course, hostilities near the plant are unacceptable, it is a strategic object ... Problems with the dam at the Kakhovka HPP will lead to grave trouble at the Zaporozhye NPP, it could lead to a nuclear disaster," he told reporters.
The Kakhovka HPP is operating in an emergency state as only three of the six turbine generator are in service, Zelensky said. The fourth hydroelectric unit was switched off as a precaution against a possible oil spill from the storage, he added.
The HPP has not suffered any major damage yet, the plant official said, adding that its stable operation is critical for uninterrupted energy supply across Ukraine.
"We work in a unified energy grid of Ukraine. Sure enough, the stability of the power system, especially in the southern region, now largely depends on our capacities," he stated.
The Kakhovka HPP is located in the city of Novaya Kakhovka, which came under the control of the Russian forces in March. On Friday, deputy head of the new regional military-civilian administration Kirill Stremousov told Sputnik that the Ukrainian forces shelled the HPP with HIMARS rockets, but the attack was repelled with no critical damage caused.
Ukraine has repeatedly targeted the Zaporozhye NPP, located on the territory controlled by the Russian forces, prompting fears of a possible nuclear accident.

Finland Finds Way to Reduce Issuance of Tourist Visas to Russians - Foreign Minister
HELSINKI (Sputnik) - Finland has developed a mechanism to slow down the issuance of tourist visas to Russians by cutting the number of days of accepting applications, Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto said on Saturday.
"In practice, this could mean that you can apply for a tourist visa on Monday, and from Tuesday to Friday you can apply for a visa for family reasons, study, work or other compelling reasons," Haavisto told Finnish broadcaster MTV3.
This measure, which can easily be implemented at the national level, would help Helsinki to considerably slow down the issuance of tourist visas to Russian citizens, the foreign minister added.
The number of Schengen visas issued by Finland in Russia has decreased significantly in recent months. The Finnish Foreign Ministry has told Sputnik that the country received about 17,200 applications from Russians in July, but the department has refused to name the percentage of visa refusals.
In the pre-pandemic year of 2019, Russians filed 786,407 visa applications at Finnish consulates, of which only 0.7% were rejected on average, according to the Finnish foreign ministry.

Gazprom Starts Pumping Extra Gas to Hungary Via TurkStream, Hungarian Foreign Ministry Says
Russia's energy giant Gazprom started supplying additional gas to Hungary at a rate of 2.6 million cubic meters of gas per day above the agreed volumes via TurkStream, Tamas Menczer, Hungarian state secretary for international representation, said on Saturday.
Menczer said that the Hungarian government made the decision to purchase some 700 million cubic meters of natural gas in addition to the agreed quantities.
"Given today's European market conditions, it is clear that procuring such a large quantity is impossible without Russian sources, so Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto recently held talks in Moscow, followed by several commercial negotiations. This led to an agreement, as a result of which yesterday morning Gazprom began deliveries above the already contracted volumes" Menczer said.
According to the official, Russia will pump 2.6 million cubic meters of natural gas per day in addition to the existing supplies via TurkStream until the end of August. Moscow and Budapest are already discussing this scheme for September.

Ankara: Two Dry Cargo Ships With Ukraine's Food Products Leave Chernomorsk Port
Two dry cargo ships loaded with Ukrainian agricultural products left the port of Chernomorsk on Saturday, the Turkish defense ministry said.

"The Barbadian-flagged vessel FULMAR S is transporting 12,000 tonnes of corn from Chernomorsk to Iskenderun [Turkey]. The Marshallese-flagged ship with the cargo of 3,000 tonnes of sunflower seeds also left Chernomorsk for Tekirdag [Turkey]," the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry added that another ship will depart for Ukraine to load grains on Saturday.

On July 22, Russia, Ukraine, and Turkey signed an UN-brokered initiative to provide a humanitarian maritime corridor for ships with food and fertilizer exports from Black Sea ports. Three key Ukrainian ports – Odessa, Chernomorsk, and Yuzhnoye – were unblocked to resume exports. A joint coordination center was set up to monitor the implementation of the initiative, including ensuring that cargo ships do not carry unauthorized goods or personnel.
