In February, Russia began a military operation in Ukraine responding to calls for help from the people's republics of Donetsk and Lugansk who were coming under intensifying attacks from Kiev's troops.
As Russian army and allied forces of the DPR and LPR advance on Ukrainian territory, Kiev's troops continue to shell the territory of Donbass republics.
The situation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant (ZNPP) has been tense in recent weeks. The plant has been routinely shelled by Ukrainian troops as they seek to wrest control of the nuclear site from Russia. The mission of the UN nuclear watchdog headed by IAEA chief Rafael Grossi is expected to arrive at the power plant shortly.
The ZNPP has been under the control of the Russian armed forces since early March.

More than 2,000 wounded Ukrainian soldiers have been taken to hospitals in the city of Mykolaiv after Kiev's failed southern offensive, with city morgues being overwhelmed, Yuri Barbashov, the mayor of Snihurivka in the Mykolaiv region, has told Sputnik.
The Russian Defense Ministry said on Monday that the Russian military had repulsed the offensive of the Ukrainian troops in the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions. The Ukrainian military lost over 560 people, 26 tanks, and two attack aircraft during the attempted offensive, according to the ministry.
"As far as I know, about 400 wounded were taken to the Ministry of Internal Affairs' hospital in Mykolaiv, the same situation is in the emergency care hospital. In total, more than 2,000 wounded were taken to various hospitals and medical facilities of Mykolaiv," Barbashov said, adding that he received the information from sources in Mykolaiv, familiar with the situation in healthcare facilities.
"All the morgues are full. Currently, there are significant problems with donor blood, with clean water, and with the provision of the wounded admitted to Mykolaiv's [hospitals]," Barbashov said.
He said that Ukrainian troops have attempted an attack near Snihurivka as well. However, he said, this attack was a diversion with the main attack occurring "a little to the north."

Five Ships Carrying Grain Leave Ukrainian Ports - Turkey's Defense Ministry
Five vessels with grain left the ports of Ukraine on Thursday morning in compliance with the Istanbul grain export deal, the Turkish Defense Ministry said.

On July 22, Russia, Ukraine, and Turkey signed an UN-brokered initiative to provide a humanitarian maritime corridor for ships with food and fertilizers from Black Sea ports. Three key Ukrainian ports — Odessa, Chernomorsk, and Yuzhnoe — were unblocked to resume the exports. A joint coordination center was set up to monitor the implementation of the initiative, including ensuring that cargo ships do not carry unauthorized goods or personnel.

On August 31, the JCC said that more than 1,5 million tonnes of grain and other food products had already left Ukraine.
