LIVE UPDATES: Ukrainian Troops Will Not Be Allowed to Enter Russia's Kherson - Regional Authorities

Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid will hold a telephone conversation with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on October 20, media reported on Tuesday, citing a source in the Israeli security forces.

Kuleba is expected to officially appeal for Israel to provide Ukraine with air defense systems, Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking at the G7 online summit on October 10, asked Western countries to provide Kiev with a sufficient number of modern and effective air defense systems.

Russia launched airstrikes against Ukrainian energy, defense, military and communications infrastructure on October 10, two days after the terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge, which, Moscow believes, was carried out by the Ukrainian special services. Around 70% of Ukrainians support the idea that their country should keep on fighting with Russia to win the ongoing conflict, according to a Gallup poll released on Tuesday.

Gallup also pointed out the different levels of support for further fighting in Ukraine among people living in different parts of the country, with 82% of Ukrainians from western regions backing continuous military efforts by their country and just 56% and 58% of people from Ukraine's eastern and southern parts, respectively, being in favor of fighting to victory.

The overwhelming majority of respondents (91%) said that a Ukrainian victory would entail their forces retaking from Russia the territory that it had acquired since 2014, including Crimea.

The poll was held from September 2-11 before the referendums on accession to Russia took place late that month in Donbasы and the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, and included respondents from all regions of Ukraine as well as Donbass.

"In these conditions, our primary goal is to save lives and preserve the health of civilians. Therefore, first of all, the Russian military will ensure the safe, already announced departure of the population under the resettlement program being prepared by the Russian government," Surovikin said.

Acting Governor of Kherson Region Vladimir Saldo said on Tuesday that he made a decision to move people from some areas of the region to the left bank of the Dnepr river.

"I made a difficult but correct decision to announce the organized departure of the civilian population of the Berislav, Belozersky, Snigiryovsky and Aleksandrovsky municipalities to the left bank of the Dnepr," Saldo wrote on his Telegram channel.

Saldo also said that there is a danger of flooding in some areas of the Kherson region if Ukrainian forces destroy the dam of the Kakhova hydroelectric power station.

Russia will conduct its annual strategic nuclear exercise "Grom," which tests Russia's nuclear-capable systems, just as NATO holds its own "Steadfast Noon" strategic nuclear drills. While the location of the Grom exercise is currently unknown, NATO's Steadfast Noon exercise is set to take place some 600 miles away from Russia, according to US officials.

The US has not yet seen any indication that Russia intends to use nuclear weapons, Ryder added.

"The US has been, alongside us, one of the leading allies of Ukraine, taking a leading role, so this is a chance for the Defence Secretary to meet with his counterparts and have further discussions about ways we can continue to support [Ukraine]," the spokesman said, as quoted by the British newspaper The Telegraph.

Yellen acknowledged Ukraine’s significant financing needs next year for critical government services and urgent recovery projects. She also stressed the need for inclusive coordination across international partners to help Ukraine begin to rebuild and recover, according to the release.
