Kiev Planning Total Evacuation in Event of Complete Blackout, Reports Say
Kiev authorities have begun planning for an evacuation of all residents from Ukraine's capital and most populous city in the event of a complete power outage, Ameican newspaper reported on Sunday, citing municipal officials.
According to the newspaper, the city officials are bracing for "a once unthinkable" possibility of evacuating three million dwellers if a sweeping blackout occurs. The situation in the city is said to be dire, with authorities setting up 1,000 heating centers, mainly inside educational facilities, which can serve a dual purpose as bunkers.
"We understand that … we may lose our entire electricity system," Roman Tkachuk, the director of security for the Kyiv municipal government, was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
Officials in Kiev were reportedly told that they would be notified that the city's energy grid was on the brink of failure at a 12-hour notice. After this, the authorities would begin informing people and asking them to leave the capital.

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Denies Putting German Lawmaker on 'Terrorist List'
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry denied the statement of the chairman of the parliamentary group of Germany's Social Democratic Party (SPD) in the Bundestag, Rolf Muetzenich, that he was included in the terrorist list by Kiev, the ministry's spokesman Oleg Nikolenko said.
On Saturday, at the SPD debate convention in Berlin, Muetzenich accused the Ukrainian government of putting him on the "list of terrorists" for his support for ceasefire in Ukraine and calls for diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict, according to German broadcaster ZDF.
"The Ukrainian government does not keep a list of terrorists. As far as I know, there are no legal proceedings against Rolf Muetzenich in Ukraine. All statements of the German politician about alleged prosecution by Ukrainian authorities are untrue," Nikolenko wrote on social media.
During his speech, Muetzenich reiterated his stance on the necessity of diplomatic efforts, saying that all conflicts were eventually ended "not on the battlefield."

Zelenskyy’s Office Calls for Strikes on Iran Over Alleged Supplies of Drones to Russia
Ukrainian Presidential Adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said on Saturday that it is necessary to carry out strikes on Iran due to the alleged supplies of drones by Tehran to Moscow.
"It seems to me that it would be possible to deliver specific strikes on the production of drones, ballistic missiles, and so on," Podolyak said.
According to him, Iran, allegedly providing assistance to Russia, "cannot continue to do this with impunity."
Moscow and Tehran have repeatedly rejected claims that Iran was providing its drones to the Russian military to use in Ukraine.
In late August, Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the topic of Russia's alleged purchase of combat drones from Iran was artificially spread in US media.
Earlier on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said that Tehran supplied Moscow with drones a few months before the start of Russia's special military operation in Ukraine. He added that Iran and Ukraine agreed to hold a meeting on the drones issue but the Ukrainian side canceled the meeting at the last moment.
