LIVE UPDATES: Indonesian President Opens G20 Summit in Bali

The G20 member countries consider the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons inadmissible, the US media reported citing a draft communique of G20 leaders.

“The use or threat of use of nuclear weapons is inadmissible," according to the draft.

"The peaceful resolution of conflicts, efforts to address crises, as well as diplomacy and dialogue, are vital," it said.

China speaks for a ceasefire in Ukraine and the start of peace talks, the international community must create conditions for this, President Xi Jinping said at a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali.

According to China Central Television, the sides exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine, and Xi stressed that China's position on the Ukrainian crisis is consistent and clear: China speaks for a ceasefire, cessation of hostilities and peace talks.

The Chinese leader said the international community should create conditions for this, and China will keep playing its constructive role.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo said in an opening speech for the G20 summit in Bali that all countries have a responsibility to achieve peace.

"We all have a responsibility, not only to our peoples, but to the people of the world. To be responsible in this situation means that we must stop the war. If the war does not end, it will be difficult for the world to move on. If war is not stopped, it will be difficult for us to be responsible for the future of this generation and the generations to come," Widodo said.

"We must not divide the world into parts. We must not allow the world to descend into another Cold War," he said.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Monday expressed his desire to talk with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Indonesia.

Upon his arrival in Bali for the summit, Sunak said that he planned to build "some strong relationships" with world leaders, "like President Biden from America and the prime ministers of Japan, Australia and India," while initially he did not mention the Chinese leader.

"President Xi is here and, like all the other leaders, hopefully, I will have a chance to talk to him too," Sunak told journalists, answering a question about a possible meeting with the Chinese president.

The G20 summit will be held from November 15-16 on the Indonesian island of Bali. Ahead of the summit, Xi held a bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden.

The presidents entered the meeting room around 5:40 p.m. local time, and Biden’s motorcade resumed around 8:53 p.m. Biden is expected to address the press at 9:30 p.m. local time (13:30 GMT).
