Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine in February after Kiev had launched attacks against the people's republics of Donetsk and Lugansk. In response, western countries have increased arms supplies to Ukraine, despite warnings from Moscow that it will only prolong the conflict.
Since 10 October, Russia has been carrying out precision strikes against Ukrainian infrastructure, in retaliation for Ukraine's terrorist attacks, including an assault against the Crimean Bridge.
After strikes on 15 November, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said that nearly half the country's power grid was put out of action. In December, President Volodymyr Zelensky said it was now impossible to restore the Ukrainian power grid in its entirety.

NATO Distributing Digital Weapons Uncontrollably Through Ukraine -Russian Foreign Ministry
NATO is actually distributing digital weapons uncontrollably through Ukraine, which is fraught with unpredictable consequences for the entire world, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov said in an interview with Sputnik.

"It is necessary to clearly understand: the threats posed by Ukraine in the information space are of a universal nature. In essence, NATO is now carrying out an uncontrolled distribution of digital weapons through that country," Syromolotov said.

"This is fraught with unpredictable consequences for all members of the international community: today Russia is in the crosshairs, and tomorrow any other state out of favor with Washington could find itself in our place," he said.

Merkel Rules Out Her Participation in Ukraine Conflict Settlement
Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel ruled out her participation in the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.

Asked by Italian weekly Sette whether her role in resolving this crisis is completely out of the question, Merkel said that "the question is not being posed." She also admitted that she does not know exactly how the conflict in Ukraine could end.

"One day it will end with negotiations. Wars end at the negotiating table," the ex-chancellor said. "There is a difference between a forced peace, which I, like many others, do not want, and an open and friendly conversation," she said.

Von der Leyen Says EU Shipped Over 77,000 Tonnes of In-Kind Help to Ukraine Since February
The European Union has delivered over 77,000 tonnes of in-kind help to Ukraine since February 2022, including various humanitarian goods, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Tuesday.

"Since February, the EU has shipped over 77,000 tonnes of in-kind assistance to Ukraine. This includes life-saving supplies such as medicine, food, shelter items. As well as fire-fighting vehicles and mobile hospitals," von der Leyen tweeted.

The commission president also stated that thanks to these measures the EU's solidarity with Ukraine "is only growing stronger."

In November, the EU commission stated that it had provided over 523 million euros ($557 million) in humanitarian aid to help Ukrainian civilians since February 24 as part of the almost 20 billion euro assistance plan agreed by the EU member states for Ukraine amid Russia's military operation there.

'Peace Summit' on Ukraine Impossible Without Russia - Russian Envoy to UN
Holding a "peace summit" on Ukraine without participation of Russia is impossible, Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyanskiy said, commenting on Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba's recent proposal.

"Firstly, Foreign Minister Kuleba said Ukraine proposed to hold some 'peace summit' until the end of February ... Secondly, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry issued a lengthy statement that Russia had become a member of the UN and the Security Council illegally ... If we try to combine these two pieces of news, they are contradictory. What could be the 'peace summit' without Russia," Polyanskiy wrote on Telegram on Monday.

The diplomat also noted that it is "very easy" to imagine holding such a summit without Ukraine, which could be the disastrous scenario for those Ukrainian officials who come up with these initiatives.
On Monday, Kuleba said Ukraine would like to hold a "peace" summit by the end of February, preferably at a UN site with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres as a possible mediator. According to Guterres' office, he is ready to mediate in the Ukraine summit issue only if all parties, including Russia, agree to that.
