Russia launched its special military operation in Ukraine in February after the people's republics of Donetsk and Lugansk appealed for protection against attacks carried out by Kiev. Moscow has denounced the flow of weapons to Ukraine from its western allies, saying it adds fuel to the fire.
Energy facilities across Ukraine have been targeted by Russia since 10 October in retaliation for Ukrainian attacks on Russian infrastructure and the bombing of the Crimean bridge, performed by Ukrainian intelligence services.
The strikes have been launched against power, defense industry, military command and communications facilities across Ukraine. In mid-November, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said that about 50 percent of Ukraine's energy infrastructure had been damaged.

Zelensky Asked Biden for Longer Range ATACMS Missiles - Reports
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked US President Joe Biden for ATACMS missiles during their recent meeting but to no avail, a US media reported, citing sources. These missiles have a range of 300 kilometers (190 miles).

Zelensky asked for the longer range missiles as Russian forces learned to adjust their positions in a way to dodge the US-supplied HIMARS missiles with 80 miles range, but the US position not to send ATACMS to Ukraine has remained unchanged, an undisclosed source was cited in the report as saying.

During Zelensky's visit to Washington on December 22, the Biden administration announced a new $1.85 billion security assistance package for Ukraine that includes the Patriot system.

Western countries have been ramping up their military support for Kiev since the beginning of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine. In April, Moscow sent a note to NATO member states condemning their military assistance to Kiev. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that any arms shipments on Ukrainian territory would be "legitimate targets" for Russian armed forces. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, stated that arms provision was undermining prospects for a future peace process.

Belarusian Foreign Ministry Summons Ukrainian Ambassador, Demands Probe Into Fallen Missile
The Belarusian Foreign Ministry summoned Ukrainian Ambassador to Minsk Igor Kyzym after the fall of a Ukrainian missile on Belarusian territory on Thursday and demanded that Kiev investigate the incident, Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesman Anatoly Glaz said.

"As you know, the Belarusian air defense forces shot down a Ukrainian S-300 missile over the territory of Belarus today. This is a very serious incident. And Belarus takes this issue as seriously as possible. In this regard, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry summoned Ukrainian Ambassador to Belarus Igor Kyzym today and expressed its strong protest to him," Glaz told reporters.

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry also demanded that Kiev conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the missile's launch, bring those responsible to justice and take comprehensive measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future, the spokesman added.
It is necessary to wait for the end of the investigation of the fallen Ukrainian missile on the territory of Belarus to determine if it was a case of a deliberate provocation, Belarusian foreign ministry spokesman Anatoly Glaz said.

"An investigation is underway now. There is no exact information to date. An investigative team is working," Glazov said, answering the question whether the incident with the fall of a Ukrainian missile on Belarusian territory was a provocation or an accident.

The diplomat added that it is necessary to wait for the results of this work.
