The tragedy occurred in the afternoon of New Year’s Eve, with the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) saying that the unnamed worker, an employee of American Airlines’ regional subsidiary Piedmont Airlines, was “ingested into the engine,” according to media reports.
