LIVE UPDATES: Death Toll From Earthquake in Syria Rises to 1,387 - Health Ministry

On February 6, south-eastern Turkiye and northern Syria were rocked by a massive earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale, several powerful aftershocks and then another earthquake causing unimaginable devastation.
The Turkish authorities have already dubbed the earthquake the "biggest disaster" in national history. It nearly wiped away several cities.
In Syria earthquake also caused devastation, taking a significant death toll and ruining architectural monuments. The Citadel of Aleppo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was also damaged.
Countries from all across the globe, including Russia, provide technical and humanitarian assistance to troubled Turkiye and Syria.

Death Toll From Earthquake in Syria Rises to 1,387 - Health Ministry
The death toll from the devastating earthquakes in Syria has reached 1,387, while over 2,300 people have been injured, the Syrian Health Ministry said on Friday.

"The death toll has risen to 1,387, injured to 2,326," the ministry announced.

Turkiye's earthquake death toll has risen to 20,213 and the number of injured to 80,052, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said.
"According to the latest data, the death toll is 20,213 people, 80,052 people were injured," Koca said at a briefing in the province of Hatay.

WHO Sends Humanitarian Aid for 400,000 People in Earthquake-Hit Turkiye, Syria
The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday it launched shipments of a total of 110 metric tons of live-saving supplies valued at $826,000 to Turkiye and Syria aiming to reach 400,000 people affected by the recent deadly earthquakes.
"These 110 metric tons of supplies, valued at USD 826 000 in total, are being sent from the WHO Global Logistics Hub located within the International Humanitarian City (IHC) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates," the WHO said.
Two flights already delivered 37 metric tons of aid to Turkiye and 35 metric tons of aid to Syria, intended to treat and care for a total of 100,000 people as well as for 120 000 urgent surgical interventions in both countries.
"A third flight is scheduled to reach the Syrian Arab Republic on 12 February and expected to carry 37 metric tons of emergency health supplies to reach an additional 300 000 people," the statement read.

The earthquake killed 18991 person in Turkiye alone. More than 75,500 are wounded. 76,000 are evacuated to another provinces, said Erdogan.
Meanwhile, experts calculated that the February 6 earthquake in Turkiye ranks second among the most destructive quakes in the country's history after the one that occurred in 1939.

Everything Will Be Done to Restore Quake-Hit Areas in Syria, Help People, Syrian President Says
A critical situation has developed in Syria after the devastating earthquake, but the authorities are using every opportunity to restore the destroyed areas of the country and help people, Syrian President Bashar Assad said on Friday.
"The situation in Syria is catastrophic, but the achievements of this country are greater than its capabilities. We will do everything possible to restore the destroyed areas and help the victims, we will send all the state's reserves there," Assad said during a visit to the rubble clearing site in Aleppo in northern Syria.
Western countries politicizes the situation amid the earthquake, the president said, noting that there is no humanism.

Turkish Presidential, General Elections May Be Delayed From May 14 to June 18
The general and presidential elections in Turkiye may be postponed from May 14 to June 18 because of the devastating earthquakes in the southeast of the country, the leader of Turkey’s opposition Good Party, Meral Aksener, said on Friday.
"I don’t think the elections will be held on May 14, but I think they will be postponed to June 18," Aksener was quoted as saying by Turkey’s Duvar newspaper.

Turkish Airlines Announces Evacuation of 27,000 People From Areas Hit by Earthquakes
Turkiye's flag carrier Turkish Airlines said on Friday that it will evacuate around 27,000 people from the areas most affected by the devastating earthquakes in the southeast of the country.
The airline is going to charter 150 flights to eight provinces hit by the earthquakes so as to evacuate 26,999 people, the company said.

UK to Deploy Field Hospital in Turkiye
The United Kingdom will deploy a field hospital with medical personnel in Turkiye and send an aircraft to transport the victims, the UK Ministry of Defense said.
"The UK will send a field hospital and C130 Hercules critical care air support team and aircraft in the coming days to help provide vital emergency treatment to those critically injured by the catastrophic earthquake in Turkey," a ministry statement read.
The field hospital will include an emergency department and a 24-hour operating room. The C130 Hercules aircraft will be used to transport the victims, the ministry said.
It also mentioned that an Air Force plane with humanitarian aid on board, including blankets to "keep survivors warm in sub-zero temperatures" had also departed from the UK.

Japan to Send Humanitarian Aid to Earthquake-Hit Syria
The Japanese government decided on Friday to send humanitarian aid in the form of tents, warm blankets and tourist mats to earthquake-hit Syria, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said.
"In response to a request from the Syrian government, the Japanese cabinet decided today to send a package of humanitarian aid in the form of tents, warm blankets and tourist mats. The assistance will be sent through the Japan International Cooperation Agency," the minister said during a press conference.
Hayashi added that Tokyo was in consultation with Turkiye, another country hit by the devastating earthquakes, to provide additional aid.
"We intend to continue to provide all the necessary assistance based on real needs on the spot," the minister said.

Some Sanctions Against Syria Must Be Lifted to Deliver Humanitarian Aid - UN WFP
Some sanctions against Syria must be lifted so that the humanitarian community can deliver medicines and fertilizers to the country after the devastating earthquake, UN World Food Program Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa Corinne Fleischer said on Friday.
There are two goods that are difficult to bring into the country, Fleischer told reporters, adding that the organization is joining forces to get them out because the humanitarian community needs to be able to bring medicines, fertilizers and other equipment into Syria. Therefore, it is necessary to lift some sanctions, she added.
