MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The Turkish intelligence agency has admitted to having "neutralized" a female leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in northern Iraq, state news agency reported Wednesday.
The suspect was identified as Sariye Atilla, who went under the alias "Rozerin Semzinan." She reportedly joined the Kurdish militant group in 2007 and helped train PKK militants in northern Iraq's Haftanin region.
The MIT intelligence agency tracked and killed Atilla in the northern Iraqi region of Hakurk, where she was reportedly doing social field work on the PKK’s behalf.
Turkiye sees the PKK as a terrorist organization. The Turkish armed forces have repeatedly targeted PKK camps in northern Iraq despite protests from the government in Baghdad.
