MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Russian President Vladimir Putin conveyed his congratulations, on Monday, to the newly-elected President of Argentina, Javier Milei, and expects the partnership between Moscow and Buenos Aires to develop further, the Kremlin stated.
On Sunday, the right-wing politician Milei, representing the La Libertad Avanza alliance, emerged victorious in the presidential election runoff in Argentina. He managed to defeat the candidate from the ruling Union for the Homeland alliance, Minister of Economy Sergio Massa. Milei is set to assume office on December 10.
"Please accept congratulations on your election to the presidency. Russian-Argentine relations are based on the good traditions of friendship and mutual respect. We look forward to the further development of strategic partnership with Buenos Aires in a variety of areas, as well as constructive dialogue on current international issues," the Kremlin said in a statement.
