On June 17, the opening ceremony of the international project "Russian Seasons," developed by the Government of Russia and the Russian Ministry of Culture, will take place on the stage of the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro in the Federative Republic of Brazil.
Russian opera singer Ildar Abdrazakov, a world-renowned bass and Honored Artist of Russia, will be performing for the Brazilian audience.
He will be joined by the winners of the International Tchaikovsky Competition: mezzo-soprano Zinaida Tsarenko, pianist Sergey Davydchenko, and violinist Daniil Kogan.
The Symphony Orchestra from Barra Mansa, Brazil, led by Russian maestro Denis Vlasenko, will fine-tune the musical ambiance at the gala event.
On the same day, in the theater's foyer, a historical exhibition dubbed "Art Masquerade of Russian Seasons" by renowned Russian theater artist, Nika Velegzhaninova, will open. The exhibit will showcase costumes created by Lev Bakst, Alexander Golovin, Mikhail Larionov, and Sergei Sudeikin – artists who played a crucial role in shaping a new perspective on scenography in the early 20th century. Many of these costumes remained mere sketches for over a century before finally coming to life in this exposition.
The events of the Russian Seasons in Brazil will run until the end of 2024. The summer block of the program kicks off with a grand concert, followed by a solo performance by Ildar Abdrazakov. The lineup also includes a concert program featuring soloists from the State Academic Russian Folk Ensemble Russia named after L.G. Zykina, performances by students of the A.Y. Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet, along with performances by the world-famous S.V. Obraztsov State Academic Central Puppet Theater.
An essential component of the program showcasing Russian culture abroad will involve lectures, exhibitions, and master classes, including presentations by the Rector of the Vaganova Academy, People's Artist of Russia, Nikolai Tsiskaridze.
In the autumn, Brazilian audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy performances by the globally acclaimed Boris Eifman St. Petersburg State Academic Ballet Theatre. Additionally, there will be lectures and master classes conducted by leading experts from the Russian Institute of Theatrical Arts GITIS, as well as the Week of Russian Cinema.
The "Russian Seasons" in Brazil will come to a close in December with concerts featuring the Moscow Jazz Orchestra under the baton of Igor Butman.
The international cultural project "Russian Seasons," organized by the Russian Government and the Ministry of Culture of Russia, is an annual event that showcases Russian culture worldwide. The project aims to highlight Russia as a country that cherishes and promotes its rich cultural heritage and traditions.
The themes and compositions of Russian Seasons are diverse, ranging from classical music concerts and theater productions to film festivals, art exhibitions, educational projects, lectures, and master classes. Since its inception, Russian Seasons has attracted over 13 million viewers.
The "Russian Seasons" brand dates back over a hundred years to 1908, when renowned art figure Sergei Diaghilev started organizing performances featuring Russian opera and ballet stars, as well as exhibitions of fine art masterpieces in Europe and America. Diaghilev's noble mission lives on today through the continuation of the Russian Seasons project.
