Russian Su-27 Jet Escorts 2 US Strategic Bombers Over Baltic Sea

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - A Russian Su-27 fighter jet escorted two US B-1B strategic bombers over the Baltic Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry stated on Tuesday.

A Russian radar detected two air targets over the Baltic Sea approaching the state border of Russia, the ministry said.

"In order to identify air targets and prevent violations of the Russian state border, a Su-27 fighter jet of the air defense forces on duty was scrambled into the air. The crew of the Russian fighter identified air targets as two US Air Force B-1B strategic bombers," the ministry reported.

When the Russian fighter jet approached, the US strategic bombers performed a U-turn from the state border of the Russia, and no violations of the state border were allowed, the ministry stated.
