Russian Senior Military Official Killed in Moscow

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - A criminal case has been launched in Moscow into the murder of a military officer, Russian Investigative Committee spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko told Sputnik on Monday.

"A criminal case has been opened in Moscow over the murder of a service person," Petrenko said.
Investigators are pursuing multiple leads and scenarios of the murder, one of which suggests the crime may have been orchestrated by Ukraine’s special services, the spokeswoman stated.

"As a result of his injuries, the head of the Operational Training Department of the General Staff of the Russian armed forces, Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, has died," Petrenko said.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Investigative Committee informed Sputnik that an incident in southern Moscow had left one person injured, and a vehicle damaged, prompting the opening of a criminal case.
