An Afghan lawmaker called on US President-Elect Donald Trump to fulfill the promises he made during his campaign about fighting Daesh and to clear away any doubts regarding suspicious activities between the United States and the terrorists, which include providing them with support.

KABUL (Sputnik) — Washington is attempting to turn Afghanistan into a corridor facilitating the movement of terrorists from the Middle East into Central Asia and Russia, Jafar Mahdawi, a member of the Afghanistan parliament, told Sputnik Wednesday.

"The United States seeks to make of Afghanistan a passageway to facilitate the movement of terrorists in the Middle East toward Central Asia and Russia and it is somewhat responsible for the state of insecurity and the expansion of terrorist groups in Afghanistan," Mahdawi said.

Mahdawi called on US President-Elect Donald Trump to fulfill the promises he made during his campaign about fighting Daesh and to clear away any doubts regarding suspicious activities between the United States and the terrorists, which include providing them with support.

Afghanistan is in a state of political and social turmoil, with government forces fighting the continuing Taliban insurgency. The instability has persisted in the country since the 2001 US-led invasion to defeat the Taliban and al-Qaeda in the wake of the 9/11 attacks in the United States.

The US-led NATO mission in Afghanistan formally ended its operations in December 2014 after a presence in the country since 2001 to help local authorities defeat the Taliban Islamist movement. The NATO-led Resolute Support mission, focused on training, advising and assisting Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) and Afghan Security Institution (ASI) organization, was launched on January 1, 2015.

Trump won the US presidency in Tuesday’s election, having gained 276 Electoral College votes, or six more than the 270 needed to win.
