The Russian leader is set to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The two already met three times this year – at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok, in Sochi in September and at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Peru.
On Thursday, Russian-Japanese talks will be held in Abe’s residence in Nagato. According to Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov, they will be held in three stages — narrow-format talks, one-on-one talks between Putin and Abe and a working lunch with the participation of ministers.
Abe and Putin are expected to discuss various issues, including the territorial dispute between Russia and Japan, the potential build-up of the political dialogue, joint projects in the economic and trade sphere and cultural ties between the two countries.
On Friday, Putin will go to Tokyo, where a working breakfast will take place. Japanese business leaders and ministers are invited to the talks, according to Ushakov.
Bilateral documents are expected to be signed after the working breakfast, possibly, up to 10 intergovernmental documents and 15 commercial ones.
About 50 business contracts are expected to be signed on the sidelines of the Russian-Japanese business forum that Putin and Abe are expected to attend on Friday.
