"Extinction Rebellion" activists and allied movements kicked off a two-week environmental protest action on 7 October, vowing to block streets in the biggest cities around the world.

Tens of thousands of activists are expected to engage in the campaign, with police warning of possible arrests of those violating the law

The wave of protests is expected to spread across 60 cities worldwide, including London, Amsterdam, New York, Berlin and Madrid among others.

Established in the UK in May 2018, "Extinction Rebellion" is an environmental pressure group which uses civil disobedience to press governments to act more on climate change and environmental protection, with the declared long-term objective of completely eliminating greenhouse gas emissions by 2025.
