"We got American military operations going on all over the world, and we then act as if it is a horrific threat to the peace of the world when Russia exercises even a miniscule amount of its military power to do something on its borders," Rohrabacher said. "We should cut the double standard."
The Russians, the congressman explained, are motivated by what they see is in the best interests of their country and their countryman and are no longer motivated by "some fanatic Marxist atheistic theory," like they were during the Cold War.
Rohrabacher explained that when the United States and its European allies helped force democratically-elected Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych out of office in 2014, Russia naturally acted to defend its vital interests.
The United States, he added, has a long history of invading countries when democratic US-aligned leaders are overthrown, such as the Dominican Republic.
"I also remember that we’ve actually been involved and engaged in things where we did overthrow some democratic leaders. Like we overthrew [Iranian Prime Minister Mohammed] Mosaddegh," the congressman concluded.
The United States, the European Union and some of their allies have introduced several rounds of anti-Russian sanctions after Crimea's reunification with Russia and Moscow's alleged involvement in the Ukrainian conflict.
