Joe Biden in Ukraine: Lecturer in Empty Class

Subscribe
US Vice President Joe Biden paid his fourth visit to Kiev making a desperate appeal to fight overwhelming corruption which plagued the Ukrainian state and is no more ignored by Washington.

While in Kiev, the US’ second-in-command promised the crippled country $190 million in financial aid, which raised the total amount given to Ukraine since the coup to a grand sum of $760 million. Petro Poroshenko raised eyebrows when he said that Ukraine was ready to help the US in the War on the Islamic State terrorist group, which is known as Daesh in the Arab world.

It’s not known exactly what he has in mind nor whether this was just another typical act of political grandstanding on his part, but this week’s Biden’s visit notably coincided with Ukraine refusing to repay its $3 billion debt to Russia and dangerously raising the stakes in a breakaway Donbass region by violating a number of ceasefire commitments.

Fyodor Voitolovsky, deputy director, Institute of World Economy and International relations (studio guest); Petri Krohn, Finnish political commentator, chairman of "Finland Without Nazism"; and Max Suchkov, Visiting Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study of Russia at New York University shared their perspectives.
