"The protocol focuses on issues of military and technical cooperation between Russia and Georgia," Yuri Baluyevsky, who heads the Russian Defense Ministry General Staff, told journalists.
In particular, in his words, the protocol contains a provision on training Georgian servicemen in Russian Defense Ministry higher educational establishments, as well as ensuring Russian military facilities' proper operation on Georgian territory.
After the talks, decisions were made to give the Georgian side a number of facilities of the Russian Defense Ministry which represent no special interest now and are not used by the ministry. "Today we found a specific scheme on the transfer of these facilities from the Russian troops group in the Transcaucasia to the Georgian Defense Ministry, and this scheme will be launched tomorrow," Col.-Gen. Baluyevsky said.
"This was a difficult conversation, and we reached understanding of problems existing in the sphere of military contacts and in Russia's south, in the Caucasus and Georgia's north," Col.-Gen. Baluyevsky said after the talks.
According to him, the sides realized that these problems should be resolved together. "We outlined specific directions of these problems' resolution," said the chief of the General Staff.
