GROZNY, August 5 (RIA Novosti) - Russian soldiers from the Vostok battalion killed a militant during a special search-and-destroy operation in northeastern Chechnya, a Chechen law enforcement official said.
According to the source, soldiers located several militants who offered armed resistance. Arsen Orziev, a militant from Dagestan, was killed in the ensuing skirmish. Another militant managed to escape.
On the same day, unidentified militants opened automatic fire at police officers Ismail Makhmudov and Hussein Katayev in northeastern Chechnya. Makhmudov died and Katayev was hospitalized, the source said.
The militants also wounded an operative from an antiterrorist center in eastern Chechnya.
